Locals in the northern town now have to travel over 100 km to give birth in Örnsköldsvik. The expectant mother's water broke in the car, and she gave birth to a baby girl at a service area.

Hey all! Congrats to last week's Y2C winner, Hindun K Nadlifah. Please email us your mailing address to kpop@kbs.co.kr so we can send out your prize. Be sure to include in the subject line that you are the Y2C winner for February 24th.
This week Wednesday is March 1st in Korea, a national holiday. It commemorates one of the earliest displays of resistance during the Japanese colonial rule in Korea. It was a big movement that really symbolizes patriotism.
So this got me thinking...
So often we criticize our respective country's government and rulings. Let's think positively for a moment and give the biggest reason you're PROUD to be a citizen of your country!

Let us know what country you're from and why you're so proud of your homeland.
Thanks guys for all your wonderful responses! We have so much fun going through them. :)
Hope you all end February well and start March on the right foot!

The quiz is back!

This week on The Sound Kitchen, you’ll hear the answer to the quiz about RFI’s birthday. There’s news from RFI Clubs, your letters, some great music, and of course, the quiz. Just click on the arrow in the photo and enjoy!

Hello everyone!
Welcome to The Sound Kitchen. You can catch the programme on-the-air every Saturday at 6:15, 7:15, 14:45 and 16:45 universal time. You’ll hear the winner’s names announced and the week’s quiz question, along with all the other ingredients you have grown accustomed to: your letters and essays, “On This Day”, quirky facts and news, interviews, and great music … so be sure and tune in every Saturday.
For our DX enthusiast friends: Our shortwave frequency is 9675 kHz on the 31m band, from 06.00 to 07.00 UT every day. We’ve had reception reports from Algeria, Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Cuba, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Russia, Sierra Leone, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US, and although the frequency is “aimed” (or however that works) towards the African continent, give it a try. You never know … and be sure and send us your reception reports. Maybe we can get more time, which would be wonderful.
You can also hear our programs on WRMI (http://www.wrmi.net/) and WRN (http://www.wrn.org/listeners/). These broadcasters diffuse our programs out of the goodness of their hearts, but unless you tell us how you heard us, we have no way of knowing … so do write and tell us how you listen to us.
A hearty welcome to four new official RFI Listeners Clubs! Three are in India, and two of those are in Murshidibad: the RFI Metali Students Club with Shivendu Paul as president and the RFI Women’s Club, Priyanka Paul, president. In Assam, there’s the RFI Listeners Club of Jorhat with Prithwiraj Purkayastha at the helm, and in Muzaffargarh, Pakistan, there’s the RFI Lovers Club with Mubashir Bukhari as president. Welcome!
If you would like to create an official RFI club, or transform your existing listeners club into an RFI club, click on the link at the bottom of this page for information on how to get started.
This week’s quiz: on 24 December, I gave you a little Christmas present – a very easy question. You were to write in with the year RFI was created.
The answer is: 1975. RFI was created in 1975 as part of the Radio France group by the French government, to replace the Poste Colonial, which was created in 1931. There were a couple of other incarnations over the years, but RFI as you know it today saw the light of day in 1975. We became independent of Radio France in 1986, and now, with our arabaphone radio Monte Carlo Doualiya and the TV station France 24, we are a part of France Medias Monde.
The winners are: Two from Bangladesh: Raihan Ali - a member of the Nilshagor RFI Fan Club in Nilphamari - and Mr Jibon, a member of the RFI Fan Club in Naogaon. There’s RFI Club member Dr Bashirideen Koray from Accra, Ghana; Ferhat Bezazel, the president of Club RFI in West Skikda, Algeria and Tiahe Nchango Hermann from Bamenda, Cameroon.
Congratulations winners!

Let's all congratulate last week's Y2C winner: Soutik Hati. Please email us your mailing address so we can send out your prize. Be sure to include in the subject line that you are the Y2C winner for February 10th, 2017.
For this week's question...
I was having a conversation with my friend about the realistic-aspects and believability of Korean dramas. She had her points on some patterns or obvious factors in Korean dramas.
Before I share what she said, (I'll share it on this Friday's edition of K-Pop Connection...) I wanted to ask our listeners their opinions. You guys always have such great answers that I'm looking forward to what you have to say.
What are some patterns you notice in Korean dramas? Also, what are some factors that make Korean dramas unrealistic? What do you notice about certain story concepts that the Korean people seem to like and thus see produced in Korean dramas?
For example, a certain look that people like in the characters, a certain style of talking, a certain story addition (for example, someone getting sick or dying), certain backdrops, preferred meeting places, preferred jobs, etc. etc.
Let us know what you think and we'll share your answers on this Friday's edition of K-Pop Connection!
Have a great week and stay warm everyone!

Hey all! Let's congratulate last week's Y2C winner: Fatima Boudaya. Please email us your mailing address to kpop@kbs.co.kr so we can send out your prize. Be sure to include in the email subject line that you are the Y2C winner for February 3, 2017.
For this week's question...
As you all know, Valentine's Day is coming up. Now I'm sure some of you think of it as an overly commercialized pseudo-holiday. However, as commercialized as it may have become, I think any day that celebrates love is still a nice day.
So who is your special Valentine this year?
Is it a new girlfriend or boyfriend? Is it a long-time friend that you've secretly had feelings for all this time and you plan to confess your feelings for them this year? Is it your husband or wife, if you're married? Do you maybe not have someone that you have romantic feelings for this year, so you want to buy chocolate for your baby brother or sister instead?
Who is that special someone in your life that you want to dedicate this Valentine's Day to?
Let us know and we'll share your answers on this Friday's edition of K-Pop Connection!
Thanks and hope you all have a great week~
